Campaign Letter

October 2018

Dear Friends and Residents of Candlewood Isle,

As you all know, the Isle was devastated by the May 15th storm. Many residents have stepped forward and have been working hard to bring the Isle back. The community has come together in many ways throughout the disaster. As we went through the process of cleaning up, we realized we have an opportunity: not just to restore the Isle to the condition it was prior to the storm, but to bring it back better than before.

I want to make you aware of two capital campaigns that have been setup to benefit the Isle. These funds are administered through the Adult Rec and Junior Rec programs. The private funding gives the community more flexibility than funds levied through taxes. These funds will expand upon the insurance settlement following the storm, to allow a more robust and holistic improvement to our beautiful shared spaces. It’s a strategic time for these efforts. The goal for each campaign is $100,000 by the end of the year and we hope for 100% participation from the community. Any amount is appreciated.

The purpose of the Adult Recreation capital campaign is to beautify the aging infrastructure and plantings in areas including the Isle entrance, clubhouse and narrows. The committee plans to hire a landscape architect to design a scheme and planting plan. The goal is to invest in materials that will deliver a handsome, coherent aesthetic in harmony with the beauty of our surroundings, while being mindful of long-term maintenance requirements. The plan will be developed during the fall and winter, and implemented in the spring. The good news is there is much consensus in the community as to what should be done, allowing progress to be made.

The purpose of the Junior Recreation capital campaign is to improve and maintain our court and recreation facilities. These facilities are core to our community - countless children learned to ride their bikes on the basketball court, generations of tennis champions emerged from our tennis courts, and many families enjoyed the inaugural pickup hockey games under the lights last year. Many of you have seen the progress with this campaign so far. The fences have been replaced, light poles have been painted, the basketball court has been remilled. The rest of the work will continue in the spring.

We hope to share our progress with you throughout the year through the Isle website. If you haven’t already signed up, please do so at www.candlewoodisle.com.

Please consider joining your neighbors and friends by contributing to one of these campaigns, if you haven’t already. This is an exciting opportunity to make the Isle better than before and take pride in our beautiful community. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Joan Archer
